Phenolphthalein Test Strips
Phenolphthalein Test Strips are semi-quantitative indicator strips for rapid detection of caustic residues in CIP rinse water and on cleaned surfaces. They provide a fast, reliable check that alkaline cleaning chemicals have been thoroughly rinsed before equipment returns to service.
Phenolphthalein Test Strips are simple, single-use indicator strips designed for the rapid detection of residual causticity in brewery CIP rinse water and on cleaned surfaces. They provide an essential check that alkaline detergents such as Sky Labs Caustic Plus, Caustic Extra, Caustic Super, Hypocip, and Chlorofoam have been fully rinsed away before vessels, casks, and pipework are returned to service.
These test strips work by reacting with alkaline residues to produce a clear colour change, turning pink to magenta in the presence of caustic above approximately pH 8.2. Results are typically available within seconds, providing immediate confirmation that rinse water is running clear of residual chemical or, conversely, that further rinsing is required. The presence of even small amounts of caustic carryover can affect beer flavour, foam stability, and yeast performance, so verifying complete rinse is a routine but critical step in good CIP practice.
Phenolphthalein Test Strips are an essential tool for any brewery operating an alkaline CIP programme. They support consistent rinse outcomes across operators and shifts, reduce the risk of caustic contamination in finished beer, and provide simple documentary evidence for HACCP and quality records. They are particularly useful for verifying final rinse stages, troubleshooting suspected chemical carryover, and confirming that vessels are ready to receive product. Each vial contains 200 strips for routine, repeat use across the production cycle.
