Blending and Carbonation

Automated Blending and Carbonation System

CO₂ Transfer Efficiency: ~100%

The Automated Blending and Carbonation System combines inline liquid blending with controlled CO₂ or N₂ dosing for beer, soft drinks, RTDs, seltzers, and other carbonated beverages. It is designed to reduce batch carbonation downtime and improve repeatability through continuous inline operation.

Semi-automatic and fully automatic versions share the same core principle: product flows continuously through the system while gas is dispersed via PIN-POINT micro-pore stainless steel injector plates. Depending on automation level, liquid ratios, gas dosing, pressure control, and recipe settings are managed through instrumentation, PID valves, and PLC/HMI control.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Process Description

1. Base Liquid and Additive Dosing
The system operates with two primary streams: a base liquid, such as deaerated water or beer, and a secondary stream for additives, including syrups, liquid flavours, or alcohol. Each line is equipped with a feed pump, flow meter, and PID control valve, allowing the mixing ratio to be automatically regulated based on pre-set recipes via the PLC.

2. Inline Blending
Both streams are combined in an in-line static blender, ensuring consistent mixing under controlled flow conditions. The configuration can be extended to include additional liquid streams or powder dosing where required.

3. Carbonation and COâ‚‚ Control
The blended product passes through the carbonation line, where CO₂ flow is regulated using airflow or rotor meters and PID-controlled valves. Operation can be automatic or manual, with carbonation levels set in g/L within the PLC program. Under normal operating conditions, saturation levels of up to approximately 5.5 g/L can be achieved, depending on product temperature and system parameters.

Carbonation Accuracy

  1. 01

    Microbubble CO₂ Injection

PIN-POINT injector plates disperse COâ‚‚ into fine bubbles, increasing gas-liquid contact area and supporting efficient mass transfer into the product.

  2. 02

    Inline Continuous Operation

Continuous carbonation removes the waiting time of batch carbonation, allowing product to move through blending, carbonation, and packaging more efficiently.

  3. 03

    Recipe-Based Control

Automatic configurations allow carbonation level and blending ratios to be stored and repeated through PLC/HMI recipes.

Blending & Production Control

  1. 04

    Automated Ratio Management

Liquid streams can be controlled with feed pumps, flow metres, and PID valves, improving consistency across product recipes.

  2. 05

    Compact Skid Design

Small footprint makes the system suitable for integration into existing production areas without requiring a full beverage plant rebuild.

  3. 06

    CIP-Compatible Pipeline

Hygienic stainless steel pipework and clean-in-place compatibility support routine cleaning between products or batches.
